Russian Woman Falls Victim to Sophisticated 4M Ruble Scam

A 27-year-old woman has fallen victim to a sophisticated scam, losing over four million rubles after being targeted by imposters claiming to be from official Russian institutions. The incident comes amidst an ongoing investigation into fraudulent compensation claims involving soldiers.

The woman was contacted by scammers posing as representatives from the tax service, 'Gosuslugi' portal, Central Bank, and FSB. They alleged tax discrepancies for 2023 and accused her of extremism, convincing her to take out loans totaling over four million rubles. The scammers demanded proof of money transfers and instructed her via the 'Zoom' app to dictate received codes to a 'bot' and upload documents on the 'Gosuslugi' portal. She was then directed to transfer the funds to specified accounts.

Meanwhile, Russian investigators have concluded an investigation into fraud related to payments exceeding four million rubles. The probe targeted officers of the 83rd Guards Airborne Brigade, involving soldiers shooting each other to receive compensation. In the past 24 hours, one report of remote fraud has been registered with the police.

The woman's case highlights the increasing sophistication of scams targeting individuals in Russia. Authorities are urging caution and vigilance, especially when dealing with unsolicited communications from official institutions. The recent investigation into fraudulent compensation claims serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent checks and balances within the system.
