Samsung's Gallery Assistant in One UI 8 offers essential tools, but maintains a minimalistic design
Samsung has recently launched Gallery Assistant within the Members app, marking the beginning of a new era for photo and video editing on Galaxy devices. The tool, currently available in South Korea, suggests a stable release is imminent.
Gallery Assistant offers a range of features designed to enhance the user experience. One such feature is the ability to rotate or flip images, providing flexibility for users to adjust their photos as needed. Additionally, the tool includes an advanced cropping function, offering granular control for precise edits.
Another notable feature is the watermark tool, which allows users to tile a pattern across the entire image, making it difficult to crop out. This could be particularly useful for creators looking to protect their work.
Moreover, Galaxy Assistant comes with HEVC video compression, which helps save space on devices, and a batch extraction feature that allows users to process up to 20 images at once.
The beta version of Gallery Assistant also includes a compression feature for photos and videos, aiming to save space on devices.
To join the Gallery Assistant beta, users can access the Samsung Members app and tap the Gallery Assistant beta banner. The rollout of Gallery Assistant is currently limited to South Korea, and it is unclear if Samsung has plans to expand the tool beyond this region after the beta wraps up.
One UI 8 devices, including the Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, and Z Flip 7, are currently participating in the beta programme. However, the availability of Gallery Assistant for devices running One UI 8 beyond these flagships is uncertain.
The rollout of Gallery Assistant is tied to the release of One UI 8, but it is not clear if it will be available for all compatible devices once One UI 8 fully rolls out.
In addition to the above-mentioned features, users can also use Image Clipper in Gallery Assistant to snip objects from images into stickers or new files, making it a versatile tool for creative editing.
Overall, Gallery Assistant promises to be a powerful and user-friendly photo and video editing tool, centralising all editing tools within the Samsung Members app. Stay tuned for more updates on the global release of this exciting new feature.
