Texas-based SpaceX faced a setback during a recent rocket launch from its Starbase facility. The launch, intended to carry Starlink satellites into orbit, was marred by technical issues just minutes after lift-off. Instead of executing the planned landing in the Gulf of Mexico, the first stage of the rocket was destroyed in an explosion.

The upper stage failed to open its payload doors, preventing the deployment of the Starlink satellites. Meanwhile, the SpaceX Starship managed to traverse further than its previous two attempts, but at the 45-minute mark, a fuel leak occurred, and control was lost. The flight was slated to last 66 minutes.

SpaceX confirmed a "rapid, unplanned disassembly," a phrase often used by company founder Elon Musk to refer to an explosion. The team will continue to analyze data and prepare for the next test.

Musk noted significant progress compared to previous prototypes and expressed his intention to launch Starship every 3-4 weeks. He also emphasized the importance of these tests for future Mars colonization, planned to begin in 2026.

The eighth launch out of the previous eight attempts was successful, but the explosion of the 123-meter rocket poses a serious threat. Previous launches have caused flight delays and complaints from environmentalists, as the spaceport is near protected natural areas. Despite the criticism, in May, the Federal Aviation Administration in the US approved increasing the annual Starship launches from 5 to 25.

While specific details about the seventh test flight are unavailable, the challenges faced by SpaceX in recent test flights underscore the complexities of developing a reliable space vehicle for ambitious missions like Mars colonization. Continuous testing and technological advancements are key to overcoming these challenges.
