Submarine Cable Contract for 500 kV Voltage Keeps ZTT Engaged in Offshore Operations in China
In a significant development for China's offshore wind energy sector, ZTT Submarine Cable & System (ZTTSC) has secured a contract to supply 94 km of 3-core HVAC cables for Shenzhen Energy's 500 MW Honghai Bay VI offshore wind farm. This groundbreaking project, located in the southern sea area of Honghai Bay Development Zone, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, is scheduled for delivery in February 2026.
The Honghai Bay VI project, connecting wind turbines more than 30 km offshore, marks a new deployment benchmark and advances China's next-generation offshore energy infrastructure. This pioneering endeavour is a critical step in enhancing China's offshore wind capabilities and supporting the broader regional energy transition towards renewable power sources.
This contract comes at an opportune time as ZTTSC is also constructing a next-generation pure-electric cable laying vessel (CLV) equipped with advanced technologies such as electric propulsion, dynamic positioning, and large cable capacity. This vessel will improve efficiency and reliability in large-scale offshore wind and grid interconnection projects in the Asia Pacific, further reinforcing ZTT's role in sustainable offshore energy development worldwide.
Meanwhile, ZTTSC has also secured a contract for a 1 GW offshore wind farm project in China, although the specific project details remain undisclosed. This project, different from the Honghai Bay VI project, is not part of the Honghai Bay VI development zone and does not set any deployment benchmarks or advance China's offshore energy infrastructure at this time.
The offshore wind industry professionals at offshoreWIND.biz, a platform read by thousands daily, have closely followed this development. As China continues to invest in its offshore wind sector, projects like the Honghai Bay VI offshore wind farm and ZTTSC's innovative cable laying technology are paving the way for a sustainable and reliable offshore energy future.
- The offshore Wind Farm located in the Honghai Bay VI development zone, Shanghai City, Guangdong Province, will not only deploy new benchmarks for offshore energy infrastructure but also support China's broader transition towards renewable power sources, partly due to ZTT's advanced technology in cable manufacturing.
- Given the technological advancements in the energy, market, and industry sectors, ZTT's construction of a next-generation pure-electric cable laying vessel is expected to improve efficiency and reliability in large-scale offshore wind and grid interconnection projects, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.
- With the expansion of China's offshore wind sector, the finance industry is anticipated to play a critical role in providing the necessary funding for projects, such as the recently-secured 1 GW offshore wind farm project by ZTT, as they look to create a sustainable and reliable offshore energy future.
