In the heart of Baltimore's Pimlico Race Course, Sommer Cable, a German development and manufacturing company, played a crucial role in one of the biggest US music gatherings - T-Pain's Preakness 150 performance.

Sommer Cable, with business partners in over 50 countries, provided the backbone for the signal chain infrastructure of the event. Their professional, high-quality cables and distribution systems ensured reliable and efficient connectivity throughout the production.

The Sommer Cable SC-Mercator CAT.7 cable was a key element in this seamless integration. This cable, a 2025 TEC Award finalist, was used for multi-channel ethernet-based snake solutions during the performance.

For events like T-Pain’s Preakness 150 performance, Sommer Cable's solutions allow:

  • Audio signals from microphones, instruments, and mixing consoles to be transmitted cleanly without interference.
  • Lighting control signals to be distributed reliably to stage lighting systems.
  • Video feeds for screens or broadcast to be carried with high bandwidth and minimal latency.

Showtime Sound LLC, the production company responsible for the event, specializes in production integration, providing audio, lighting, video, staging, and backline for any size event or venue. They partnered with L-Acoustics, Absen Inc., Tyler Truss Systems, LLC, and Sommer Cable for this production.

Marc Chauvin, from Showtime Sound LLC, emphasized the importance of reliability and quality for high-level productions, investing in their partnership with Sommer Cable. The performance was staged by Showtime Sound LLC, with the redesigned stage visible from the grandstand and grounds.

Sommer Cable America, Inc., established in Santa Rosa, CA in 2015, supplies the North American markets. The company offers an extensive range of audio, video, and multimedia distribution cables and connectors designed for demanding broadcast and live event environments. This includes HD-SDI video patch cables for high-definition video signals and robust audio cables with premium connectors that maintain signal integrity over long distances.

Rapper T-Pain, known for popularizing creative use of Auto-Tune pitch correction, blending it with R&B and hip-hop to become a prominent figure in both genres, delivered an unforgettable performance at Preakness 150, all backed by Sommer Cable's reliable infrastructure.
