TalkTalk Implements Modular Data Center Architecture
In a bid to enhance its digital infrastructure and meet the growing demands of its customers, TalkTalk is currently constructing two additional data centers on the Spring Park campus, owned by Ark Continuity.
The new data centers, which are being built using a modular design, will be interconnected via fibre-optic pipes to ensure increased resilience and efficiency. This innovative approach has significantly reduced the construction time, with TalkTalk's latest data center taking just six months to build, compared to the usual two years.
TalkTalk's decision to opt for a modular design was driven by the need for a more scalable solution. The modular design allows for the potential use of future cooling technologies as they become available, ensuring the facility remains state-of-the-art.
The modular design also offers flexibility, enabling TalkTalk to deploy new data center infrastructure technologies without having to replace the entire installation. This forward-thinking approach is a testament to TalkTalk's commitment to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The Spring Park campus, located next to a Ministry of Defence facility, offers TalkTalk ample power availability and is unlikely to be hit by an aeroplane due to the MoD site being a no-fly zone. This strategic location provides TalkTalk with a robust and reliable infrastructure to support its growing network.
TalkTalk's network, an all-IP network, allows for more effective scaling, making it possible for the company to deliver new technologies and services faster than its competitors with legacy networks. As a result, TalkTalk claims to have the largest IP network in the UK, surpassing BT's 21st Century Network.
Dave Mullender, head of network services at TalkTalk Business, commented on the company's network, stating, "Our all-IP network allows for more effective scaling, making us more responsive to our customers' needs."
The new data centers are expected to be operational soon, and when all three are in place, TalkTalk is confident that the facility will be able to handle any scalability required by its customers. With these expansions, TalkTalk is set to continue its journey towards becoming a leading digital services provider in the UK.
