Telecommunications giant Telefonica Tech collaborates with Privado ID to formulate digital identity solutions for the European Union market.

The European Union is preparing to implement the European Digital Identity Regulation (eIDAS2), and two leading tech companies, Privado ID and Telefónica Tech, have joined forces to make a significant impact on the future of digital identities in the region.

Privado ID, a pioneer in zero-knowledge proof-based digital identity solutions, has partnered with Telefónica Tech, the strategic digital business unit of Telefónica Group, to accelerate the adoption of privacy-compliant digital identities across the European Union. The collaboration involves integrating Privado ID's digital identity solutions with Telefónica Tech's capabilities to develop innovative digital identity services aligned with eIDAS2.

The aim of this partnership is to enable secure, privacy-first digital identities that comply with evolving EU regulations and facilitate trusted identity verification across member states. The integration emphasizes user control over data and compliance with data protection standards.

David Schwartz, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder at Privado ID, stated that empowering large companies to integrate innovative technologies like Privado ID's digital identity platform is crucial for widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity.

Telefónica Tech, with its experience and expertise in blockchain-based solutions and systems integration, is a key element for driving the future of digital identity. The company's size and depth of experience will help bring corporate clients into the Privado ID ecosystem.

One of the first proof-of-concepts the collaboration aims to develop is for age verification, which can be used to provide a reliable and secure, privacy-compliant mechanism for granting access to adult content and gambling platforms.

José Luis Nuñez, Global Head of Blockchain and Web3 at Telefónica Tech, emphasized that Telefónica Tech ensures "privacy, security, and compliance" in its adoption of digital identity solutions.

Privado ID will utilize Telefónica Tech's expertise in decentralized technology, systems integration, and managed blockchain service TrustOS to develop innovative verifiable credential use cases. This partnership is a significant move towards the widespread adoption of self-sovereign identity solutions.

Under eIDAS2, each EU Member State must provide Digital Identity Wallets to its citizens, and the regulation outlines technical specifications and certification. The implementation of eIDAS2 is seen as a critical step in Privado ID's mission to provide state-of-the-art digital identity solutions, enhancing cross-border digital identification and trust services within the EU.
