Tesla, the American electric vehicle company, is preparing to officially launch in the Indian market, but uncertainty surrounds the leadership of its operations following the resignation of Prashanth Menon, former India head and chairman of Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt.
According to reports by Bloomberg, Tesla has already secured two showroom locations in India, one in Mumbai and another in Delhi. However, there is no publicly available information about who will oversee the company's operations in India after Menon's departure.
Menon played a pivotal role in setting up Tesla's local office in Pune in 2021 and led efforts to secure the company's first showroom leases in Mumbai and Delhi earlier this year. Despite his significant contributions, no successor has been named to fill his position.
Recent reports discuss Tesla's expansion in India, including the opening of showrooms, job openings, and strategic plans for manufacturing. Tesla has listed dozens of new job openings in India over the last few months, ranging from store managers to service and customer service roles. The company has also started hiring for Autopilot Vehicle Operators to test and validate the self-driving software on local roads.
However, the report did not specify the reasons for Menon's departure, and no new information about a successor has been reported. Tesla is issuing refunds to customers who placed early reservations for the Model 3 as far back as 2016, likely to reset its plans to better align with updated vehicle offerings. The official launch of Tesla in the Indian market has not been officially announced yet.
