Tesvolt Ocean's 'Kaptein NMC Compass Core' Battery System Approved for Small Ships

Tesvolt Ocean, a Lübeck-based company, has received RINA approval for its 'Kaptein NMC Compass Core' battery system, designed for both inland and maritime navigation. This marks a significant step for the company, which developed the system specifically for smaller ships with limited space. The announcement was made on September 17, 2025.

The battery system, named Compass Core, is designed to be robust and reliable. It has passed all RINA tests for type approval certification of lithium battery systems, demonstrating its exceptional performance under various conditions. Notably, air cooling is sufficient for the battery system, making it an efficient choice for smaller ships.

The battery module's compact size, measuring 60.5 cm x 62.4 cm x 14.9 cm and weighing 5.9 kg per kWh, allows for easy installation. Two people can install the modules without needing a crane, even in hard-to-reach areas on board. The modules can be mounted individually and at any angle, providing flexibility in installation. Moreover, the modules are vibration-resistant and can withstand being laid on the floor and walked on, ensuring durability in harsh marine environments.

Safety is a key feature of the Compass Core. A multi-stage protection system is triggered in case of critical battery temperatures, ensuring the safety of both the ship and its crew.

The RINA approval of the 'Kaptein NMC Compass Core' battery system by Tesvolt Ocean opens up new possibilities for smaller ships seeking reliable and efficient energy storage solutions. The system's robustness, ease of installation, and safety features make it an attractive option for both inland and maritime navigation.
