Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 Showcase Innovative Aviation Solutions
The aviation industry is set to take a significant leap forward as the Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 unveil their finalists. On June 6, 2023, in Hamburg, 21 innovative concepts will be presented, each aiming to redefine the future of air travel.
The awards are categorised into seven segments: Cabin Concepts, Cabin Systems, Materials and Components, Health & Safety, Passenger Comfort, IFEC & Digital Services, Sustainable Cabin, and University.
In the Cabin Systems, Materials, and Components category, ideas strive to make flying more efficient and inclusive. Collins Aerospace introduces Q-Tech material for noise reduction, while J&C Aero presents the Jump Seat Duo, a crew jump seat that integrates a foldable wheelchair.
Adient Aerospace and Boeing EnCore Interiors are finalists in the Passenger Comfort category, offering more space for business passengers in single-aisle aircraft, complete with a seat facing the window and a desk for long-haul flights.
Collins Aerospace's Pothos is a contender in the Health & Safety category, using ionization technology for air purification.
Three product innovations are finalists in the Sustainable Cabin category: Airbus' BioMat Sidewall Panel, made from sustainable resin and recycled carbon fibers; Diehl Aviation's cabin lining with integrated vacuum insulation; and Lantal Textiles' ultra-light carpet.
In the University category, three unconventional designs from the Technical University of Delft have been selected. These designs include a 3D-printed cushion for enhanced seating comfort, offering a lightweight and sustainable product. Another design, the ultra-light seat from Alba Seating Concept, saves weight through a unique seat material. The lightweight seat from Horus can be used in hydrogen-powered aircraft by 2030.
The IFEC & Digital Services category sees Airbus' Airspace Link HBCplus connectivity solution as a finalist, allowing airlines to connect via satellite with various IT services.
The Lufthansa Group presents the Allegris system, offering passengers a choice of 14 seat types in four travel classes, including double suites and beds with soft mattresses.
Airbus' A350 Airspace cabin is a finalist, designed for more space, choice, and flexibility overall. Diehl Aviation's Crew Rest Compartment for Single-Aisle Aircraft is another contender, offering a foldable, flat resting area for the crew.
Lastly, Air New Zealand's Skynest is a finalist in the Cabin Concepts category, offering sleeping pods for economy class on ultra-long-haul flights.
The Crystal Cabin Awards 2023 promise to bring about revolutionary changes in the aviation industry, with each finalist presenting a unique and innovative solution to enhance the flying experience. The event in June will undoubtedly be a showcase of the future of air travel.
