The second round of Nintendo World Championships is currently underway, focusing on the NES edition
The classic Nintendo World Championships are back, now available for Nintendo Switch Online members. This time, it's the NESTM Edition, offering more than 150 challenging moments from 13 iconic NES games.
To join the action, a Nintendo Switch Online membership (sold separately) and a Nintendo Account are essential. Internet access is required for online features, which allow players to compete against others worldwide or challenge their friends locally.
The challenges featured in the World Championships and Survival modes are Power Grab (MetroidTM), Loose Change (Super Mario Bros.TM), Death Mountain Duel (The Legend of ZeldaTM), Barrel Roll (Donkey KongTM), and Overcome the Underworld (Kid IcarusTM).
This event is all about testing your speedrunning skills. As you complete challenges, you'll earn in-game coins that unlock more content. Your ranking depends on your speed and skill, with previous best runs playing alongside current runs for comparison.
Watching replays might provide insights to improve your own times. Participants can even check their overall placement and see how they rank against other players in their birth year by playing the game.
However, be prepared for some tough challenges that test your limits. Additional accessories may be required for multiplayer mode (sold separately).
The competition is ongoing until July 29, 1:59 a.m. PT. Don't miss your chance to be a part of the 2025 Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition!
Please note that for official, detailed rules, Nintendo’s announcements or the Switch Online site would be the best source closer to or during the event.
