This Sunday marks the reactivation of a notable artifact.
On Sunday, September 21, at 10 am, the Förderverein Großes Moor e.V. from Neudorf-Platendorf will be hosting an event showcasing a 1960-built Fuchstorfstechmaschine at Dorfstraße 170 in Platendorf, Sassenburg. The event will also feature the Verein Forum Industriekultur.
The Fuchstorfstechmaschine, which includes the air-cooled Deutz engine, was previously in operation until 2024. The air-cooled Deutz engine will be operational during the event, and its original conveying capacity of approximately 40 meters of cutting channel per hour is expected to be demonstrated.
The transfer of the STEBA machine was a significant undertaking due to its weight exceeding 3,000 kilograms. The NDR dedicated a multi-minute television report to the transfer of the STEBA machine over a distance of seven kilometers. The machine is now located at the Moormuseum, where it was transferred after its operation.
The Fuchstorfstechmaschine was used for cutting the upper, light peat layer (white peat) into approximately 80 by 80 centimeter blocks. These blocks were laid out in rows next to the machine.
The Förderverein Großes Moor e.V. aims to preserve the memory of the peat cutting culture, and this event is a testament to their efforts. The functioning of the air-cooled Deutz engine today remains to be seen, but it promises to offer a fascinating glimpse into the past.
Visitors are invited to attend the event on September 21 to witness this piece of history in action. The meeting point for the event is at Dorfstraße 170 in Platendorf.
