Excited Buzz Surrounding Reality Programs Based on Exploration and Wilderness Endurance - Thrilling Anticipation Surrounding Reality-Based Expedition and Survival Programs
Title: "Chasing the Thrill: German Adventure & Survival Shows Heat Up on Joyn and Beyond"
The much-anticipated reality series, "Most Wanted," premieres on Joyn on May 14th. Famous faces break out of a fictional prison, relying on the help of public passersby and fans to outrun three relentless "hunters" - Joey Kelly (52), Otto Karasch (known as Otto Bulletproof), and Max Schradin (47). Joyn airs the hunters' pursuit every Wednesday, with an extra episode on ProSieben at 10:35 PM.
The concept originated in the Netherlands and has been a success there. In recent years, similar survival-themed shows have also gained popularity in Germany. Both Joey Kelly and Otto Bulletproof have built their reputations in this genre.
First, in June 2021, outdoor YouTuber Fritz Meinecke (35) enticed viewers with whispers of "the biggest project ever on my channel." Fast forward to November 10th, the first episode of "7 vs. Wild" hit the scene, where seven contestants fight for survival in the Swedish wilderness for seven days, equipped only with seven chosen items. The survival show crushed it on YouTube and possibly sparked the attention around this genre in Germany. Now in its fourth season, "7 vs. Wild" offers varied locations and unique twists, including team competitions and participants selected by audience votes. Since season three, the format has extended its reach to Prime Video.
Joey Kelly and Otto Bulletproof have both taken turns testing their endurance in the series.
More recently, Joey Kelly embarked on the survival format "Mission Unknown: Atlantic," alongside Jens "Knossi" Knossalla (38) and Ann-Kathrin Benedixen (25). Kelly now battles Benedixen, known online as "Affe auf Bike," in "Most Wanted."
In "Mission Unknown: Atlantic," two teams braved damaged sails, faulty technology, and stormy weather to navigate the Atlantic Ocean. The survival show has been available on Prime Video and Knossi's YouTube channel since February.
"The Race," a similar concept to "Most Wanted," debuted on Joyn in June 2024, followed by YouTuber David Henrichs' channel a fortnight later. Contestants are abandoned in a foreign city without assistance and must reach a specific destination by passing through several nations. The first to roll in wins.
Meanwhile, Otto Bulletproof already gainedNotoriety in the action format "Catch Me," broadcasted on Joyn and his YouTube channel. However, in this program, Otto Bulletproof becomes the prey. He and YouTuber DerSebo run from trained hunters, but YouTube personalities Rick Azas and Nico Spedicato aid them in their endeavor.
Going back to April 2023, Bulletproof faced an icy challenge in "Arctic Warrior," hosted on the streaming service Paramount+. The former soldier took on the role of show host and one of the experts, leading eight teams through the Arctic's frozen wilderness of Lapland for the title "Arctic Warrior." The competition can be seen on both Paramount+ and Bulletproof's YouTube channel.
Otto Bulletproof's YouTube channel is a treasure trove of outdoor and survival content, much of which happens off-screen. In 2023, Bulletproof and former "7 vs. Wild" participant Fabio Schäfer battled the Canadian wilderness in "Survival Squad: Mission Canada." The challenge was to survive 30 days by hiking 300 kilometers through the wilderness, encountering wolves and bears along the way.
