During its recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung showcased the latest additions to its S-series lineup, namely the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Although these devices flaunt a few new features and slight cosmetic changes to lure iPhone users, the main focus lies on Samsung's new "integrated AI platform."

The Galaxy S25, priced at $800, and its $1,000 superior version, the S25+, rely on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and 12GB of RAM to support all the new AI capabilities. Despite slightly less impressive camera sensors compared to the S25 Ultra, they will still provide the AI features such as "cross-app actions," Now Briefs, and Audio Eraser.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra retains the top spot with the inclusion of a 50MP ultra-wide lens for better landscape shots, a QHD+ resolution, and an S Pen for handy note-taking. It nevertheless shares the same chip and RAM as the first two phones.

The presentation concluded with Samsung introducing the anticipated Galaxy S25 Edge, with a mysterious promise of a thinner design and undisclosed specifications.

Samsung also teased their upcoming smart glasses, which will pack the new conversational AI assistant. These glasses, expected later this year, will support Android XR and will likely render significant enhancements to the AI capabilities.

The star of the show was the cross-app actions to be facilitated by the integrated Gemini AI of the S25 lineup. Samsung demonstrated how users can use a voice prompt or text input to switch between multiple apps, perform tasks, and manage their emails, calendars, and notes. This feature is strengthened by the addition of WhatsApp and Spotify, with other apps to be added via an APK update.

Samsung's new conversational search in Gallery and Settings will help users to locate settings more efficiently, though users will still need to manually toggle them. The newly introduced "Now Bar" on the lock screen will display relevant and personalized content like weather and wellness metrics.

Audio Eraser is another headline feature of the Galaxy S25 devices. This strategically-placed feature allows users to erase unwanted background noise from videos with just a few button presses. The Gemini AI will help distinguish between various audio sources and enable users to enhance their videos with ease.

Gemini Live, Samsung's conversational AI, is set to upgrade with the ability to analyze images uploaded to smartphones. Users can even ask about the photo composition or question the AI about YouTube videos.

Project Astra features will also be integrated, including screen sharing and live video AI conversations, finally finding their place in Gemini. Circle Search, first debuted on the Galaxy S24, has since been improved for better accuracy and more extensive recognition capabilities.

Audio Search built into Gallery, on a similar premise to Shazam, enables users to identify tunes simply by humming or recording. This feature will undoubtedly be popular among music enthusiasts and tech-savvy individuals.

SmartSelect, now rebranded as AI Select, has received new enhancements, with the ability to record GIFs from videos without additional post-processing. Inevitably, users will be able to share quick gut-reaction clips more effortlessly than ever before.

At Galaxy Unpacked, Samsung also announced active support for LOG video recording in the Pro mode of the camera app. This will enable professional videographers to shoot directly in logarithmic, thus making it easier to color correct footage on post-production software.

Lastly, Samsung Health will receive upgrades with the addition of vascular load and antioxidant indices for users who prefer precise nutritional tracking. This health app will also be harnessed to bolster mental well-being, with greater mindfulness features forming part of the suite.

In the second half of this year, the anticipated updates will be rolled out across both the Galaxy S24 and S25 lineup. The unique combination of hardware and software upgrades ensures that the Galaxy S25 devices continuously improve user experience and maintain Samsung's competitive edge in the smartphone market.
