TSMC Expands Fab 22 for Advanced A14 Production

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has announced a significant expansion of its Fab 22 facility in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The sixth phase of the plant is set to begin production of advanced A14 processors using nanosheet technology, marking a major step in the company's roadmap.

The expansion of Fab 22 comes as TSMC continues to meet the growing demand for advanced auto parts semiconductors. Phase 2 of the facility is expected to support the production of N2 chips by the second quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the first wafers in Phase 1 have already begun mass production using the N2 process, with full-scale production slated for 2026.

To ensure flexibility and meet high demand, TSMC is also building Fab 25 in Taichung. This facility, consisting of four phases, will focus on A14 production. The company's strategic planning allows it to adapt to market needs and maintain its position as a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.

Originally planned to come online in 2021 to support older processes, Fab 22's timeline was adjusted due to declining orders. Now, with the sixth phase underway, the facility is set to produce cutting-edge A14 processors using the true second generation of nanosheet technology.

The expansion of Fab 22 and the construction of Fab 25 demonstrate TSMC's commitment to staying at the forefront of advanced auto semiconductor technology. With these facilities, the company is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for advanced chips, driving innovation in the tech industry.
