Underwater Photography Journey with Sony RX1xx Series Housings Ensalined with Salt
The Salted Line underwater housings for Sony's popular compact camera line, including the RX100 VII, offer a range of advanced features designed to enhance underwater photography.
These housings boast a depth rating of up to 60 meters (195 feet), making them suitable for professional diving and deep water underwater work. They are built with a durable polycarbonate material, ensuring waterproof, dustproof, anti-drop, and antifreeze properties, enhancing reliability in various harsh environmental conditions underwater.
One of the standout features is the built-in leak sensor, which alerts the user if water intrusion occurs inside the housing, providing safety for expensive camera equipment. The housings are specifically designed to support the RX100 series from III to VII and Sony A6xxx series models. For the RX100 VII, dedicated housings are available, ensuring a precise fit and functionality.
The housings come with a standard flat glass port, with additional options including a flat glass macro port, two dry dome ports for wide-angle photography, and optional wide 4" or 6" dry dome or macro port. This flexibility allows photographers to capture the best possible images, whether they're focusing on macro shots or wide-angle landscapes.
The housing for the Sony RX1xx series is designed for the RX100 III, IV, V, VI, and VII cameras. The RX100VII, the latest addition to the series, features an electronic shutter up to 1/32000s, a built-in 24-200mm (equivalent) f/2.8-4.5 zoom lens, and a 20.1 MP CMOS sensor. Key upgrades from the RX100VI include an updated sensor and processor, improved AF tracking including animal eye focus, and unlimited 4k video.
The Salted Line housing for these cameras is designed for easy operation, with a pistol grip handle on the housing for easy one-handed operation. Two small buoyancy cubes are added on each strobe arm to provide a slight lift and added wrist comfort while diving.
For added confidence, the housing includes an optional pre-dive vacuum leak test system. This system involves replacing the vacuum protection cap with the vacuum alarm interface, turning the vacuum alarm on, pulling the air from the housing with the vacuum pump until the flashing light turns green, and testing the buttons and dials during the recommended 5-minute wait.
The housing with the camera installed is buoyant, but when mounted on the dual handle tray with strobes, the system becomes negative. The back panel of the housing secures itself with dual stainless steel hinge locks. An anti-reflection ring supplied with the housing is used to avoid camera flash reflection in photos, especially at 40mm or wider.
In summary, the Salted Line housings for the Sony RX100 VII and related Sony cameras provide robust waterproofing to 60m depth, integrated leak detection for camera safety, detachable dome ports for better image quality, and rugged construction, making them a reliable choice for serious underwater photographers.
