United Kingdom exceeds 75,000 accessible electric vehicle charging stations for public use.
The UK has reached a significant milestone in its transition to electric vehicles (EVs), with the installation of the 75,000th public charging station. This achievement was made by BP Pulse, marking a significant stride in the country's efforts to improve its EV infrastructure.
The ultra-rapid charging segment, defined as 150kW+, has seen a 74% increase in installations since the end of February 2024. This growth is particularly noteworthy, as it indicates a clear shift towards faster and more efficient charging solutions.
The number of chargepoints increased by 32% year-on-year compared to February 2024, reflecting a consistent and steady growth in the UK's EV charging network.
Vicky Read, the CEO at ChargeUK, has stated that reaching 75,000 public charge points is a significant milestone. She emphasized the need to keep the momentum going as millions more EVs will be sold in the coming years. A successful transition to electric vehicles, according to Vicky Read, depends on world-class charging infrastructure being deployed ahead of demand.
In recognition of these achievements and innovations in EV charging infrastructure, the fourth annual CiTTi Awards will be held on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The CiTTi Awards is an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector. For more information about the CiTTi Awards, visit www.cittiawards.co.uk.
The UK government has also played a crucial role in this development. In 2024, there was increased installation of chargepoints, with particularly strong growth in the ultra-rapid segment. This growth was further boosted by £120m funding from the government to support EVs.
Moreover, the government has extended the plug-in van grant. ChargeUK's members have committed to investing £6bn by 2030 to further develop EV charging infrastructure.
The 75,000th public charge point is an ultra-rapid and four rapid devices installed at the Village Hotel, Bristol, operated by EV charging network Ionity. As of the end of February 2025, the UK has 75,675 electric vehicle public chargepoints.
With these developments, the UK is well on its way to creating a robust and efficient EV charging network, making electric vehicles a more viable and attractive option for consumers.
