Universal Robots Launches UR8 Long for Complex Quality Inspection

Universal Robots (UR) has introduced the UR8 Long, a new collaborative robot designed for quality inspection. This long-reach cobot is set to automate complex workflows and enhance inspection strategies.

The UR8 Long runs on PolyScope 5 and PolyScope X software platforms, offering users the choice between ease of use and advanced functionality. It can be further enhanced with MotionPlus, ensuring smooth trajectories and precise positioning. With a reach of 1750 mm (68.9 in) and a payload capacity of 8 kg (17.6 lbs), it's well-suited for space-constrained inspection cells, accessing multiple measurement points in hard-to-reach areas.

The UR8 Long boasts upgraded freedrive functionality, making setup and calibration of inspection routines intuitive. Its extended reach and improved wrist architecture enable larger work envelopes, reducing the need for frequent repositionings. It's also ideal for manufacturers integrating vision systems, scanning heads, or non-contact sensors, providing stable and repeatable positioning. With rapid cycle times, up to 30% faster than previous generations, it positions itself as a powerful tool for modern quality control strategies.

The UR8 Long, developed by Universal Robots, demonstrates the growing role of cobots in enabling smart, flexible inspection applications. With its long reach, upgraded features, and rapid cycle times, it's poised to revolutionize quality control workflows.
