Update 2.5 in Hunt: Showdown unveils the Empress's network in the year 1896
The independent game developer, Crytek, has announced Update 2.5 for their horror extraction shooter game, Hunt: Showdown, accompanied by the "Web of the Empress" event, set to launch on September 24, 2025. This update brings a host of changes and new features, including gameplay balancing, revamped melee system, and the introduction of tarot cards.
Update 2.5 includes various improvements such as long-awaited UI and lobby overhauls, further weapon balancing, and audio adjustments. The update, however, does not mention any new challenges or changes in the Bileweaver territory.
In the Bileweaver territory, meter-long webs form massive nests filled with eggs. Venturing into this area brings danger but also new rewards. Swarms of Bileweavers, spider-like creatures, pose a new challenge during the event. Among the new rewards are 12 tarot cards that create a new gameplay layer.
Tarot cards can be found in nests, but also obtained through Dark Tributes or looting dead hunters. Each card can be used only once and grants a unique and powerful effect. One example of a tarot card effect is the "The World" card, which reveals all boss targets on the map, eliminating the need for clues.
Update 2.5 also introduces revamps to the melee system with optimized hit detection and increased maximum range of melee attacks. Sealed rewards like traits, healing, and ammunition are also available in Update 2.5.
The "Web of the Empress" event is based on a story where the Empress, injured by hunters, becomes infested with spiders whose webs stopped her bleeding. She awakens from a coma seeing herself as a spider mother. The update does not provide details about new dangers or rewards associated with venturing into Bileweaver territory.
