Warner Bros. Alters Release Plans, Postponing The Bride! and Additional Productions
Hollywood's release dates are priceless gems, revealing a ton about upcoming films. The date a movie drops, or if it's pushed back or brought forward, can give a sneak peek into what's in store when you hit the theater seats. Warner Bros. recently shook things up - and fortunately for us, Superman's safe in July. However, other films aren't so fortunate. Here's the lowdown.
Io9 readers, prepare yourself for some flabbergasting news regarding Maggie Gyllenhaal's The Bride, co-starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley. This promised Bride of Frankenstein musical flick, which had us excited with its original September 26 release date, has taken a six-month detour, now scheduled for March 6, 2026. While the September slot was vacated, we're still crossing our fingers, given its previous successes like Dune, Godzilla v Kong. The Bride will now go head-to-head with Pixar's new movie, Hoppers.
With September now open, a few shuffles occurred. For instance, Paul Thomas Anderson's latest, titled One Battle After Another and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, shifted from August 8 to September 26. On the other hand, August 8now belongs to Weapons, the latest from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, who was previously set for January 2026. Moving Weapons up by five months is an impressive and optimistic strategy for a film that boasts a sprawling, multi-character narrative reminiscent of Nashville or Magnolia, but with a darker, horror-infused vibe. The cast includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, and Alden Ehrenreich. Fans can catch Weapons locking horns with Freakier Friday.
However, not all moves are promising. The much-anticipated Flowervale Street, directed by It Follows' David Robert Mitchell, initially set to grace our screens this summer, was shuffled to March 2026 and subsequently moved to August 14, 2026. Starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, the film might or may not involve dinosaurs, so let's hope those extra months are just for fine-tuning and not a burial plot!
Lastly, Bill Hader's upcoming animated Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, featuring Quinta Brunson, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Matt Berry, and Paula Pell, had its release date pushed back a week, from March 6, 2026, to February 27, 2026. Since completing Barry, Hader has kept busy lending his voice for this project.
Everything else on the roster remains the same for now: Minecraft on April 4, Sinners on April 18, Final Destination: Bloodlines on May 16, F1 on July 27, Superman on July 11, and Mortal Kombat 2 on October 24. What's your pick?
