Woolsey Fire: Laura Kotimäki-Hurd's Hope for Malibu's Equestrian Community
The Woolsey Fire in Southern California left a trail of destruction, displacing hundreds of horses and families, including Laura Kotimäki-Hurd and her husband, owners of LKH Equestrian in Malibu. Despite the devastation, Laura remains optimistic about rebuilding the equestrian community, with the support of organisations and celebrities like Whitney Cummings and Beth Behrs.
Laura's husband demonstrated remarkable bravery by driving back into the fire zone to rescue four horses from their property. The couple's dedication to their animals was further shown when they hiked seven miles daily to check on their home and search for their lost horse, Archie. Fortunately, Archie was found safe and sound on a desolate mountaintop by the SPCA of Los Angeles five days after the fire.
The fight to rebuild and support the affected communities continues, with donations pouring in to the USEF Disaster Relief Fund and Animal Hope and Wellness for fire relief efforts. Despite the loss of their home ranch in the blaze, Laura remains hopeful about the future of the equestrian community in Malibu.
The Woolsey Fire may have destroyed many homes and barns, but it has also brought out the best in people like Laura Kotimäki-Hurd and her husband, as well as celebrities and organisations supporting the fire victims. With continued efforts and donations, the affected communities can rebuild and recover from this devastating event.
