World's Tallest Bridge Opens in Guizhou, China
Guizhou Province has unveiled the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, now the world's tallest bridge. Opened in late September, it stands at an astonishing 2,050 feet above the Beipan River, dwarfing the Golden Gate Bridge.
Spanning an impressive 4,600 feet, the Huajiang Bridge is also the longest ever constructed in a mountainous region. It surpasses the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado, which, at 956 feet, was previously the tallest in the U.S.
The bridge's construction was no easy feat. It took nearly four years to tame the gorge's unstable karst foundations. The result is a marvel of engineering that has transformed a once isolated region into an economically active area. The bridge cuts travel time from two hours to just two minutes, earning it the title of 'infrastructure miracle' from state media.
Visitors can enjoy a glass elevator, glass walkway, bungee platform, and a glass floor at the visitor center, turning the bridge into a major attraction. From the river below, the bridge soars higher than the Shanghai Tower and is over twice the height of the Eiffel Tower.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is a testament to Guizhou's ambitious infrastructure projects. Since the 1980s, the province has built over 32,000 bridges, with the Huajiang project being one of its boldest. The bridge not only connects the region but also draws visitors with its stunning design and attractions.
