Wrightbus Presents Groundbreaking Zero-Emission Vehicle in Historic Industrial Accomplishment
Wrightbus Unveils Zero-Emission StreetDeck Bus, Secures Major Financing
Wrightbus, a leading manufacturer of zero-emission buses, has made a significant stride in its two-year journey with the unveiling of its 6×2 StreetDeck bus. This milestone comes after the company secured a £150 million finance package from HSBC UK, positioning it to ramp up production and meet global demand.
The new StreetDeck bus is already receiving international orders, with German-based bus operator West Verkehr ordering a fleet of 12 zero-emission hydrogen buses. Wrightbus's global reach is expanding, with orders from several countries, including Singapore and Hong Kong. The buses, typically featuring enhanced passenger capacity, improved fuel efficiency, and compliance with local emission standards, are expected to meet strong demand in international markets.
The StreetDeck Ultroliner buses will continue Wrightbus's legacy of ultra-low emission diesel-powered buses. Powered by a Cummins B6.7 litre six-cylinder diesel engine, these buses are set to undergo rigorous efficiency and durability testing over the summer. The first demonstrator unit is set to be deployed in Hong Kong for 12 months.
Wrightbus's expansion extends beyond manufacturing. The company is bolstering staffing, opening new facilities, and launching a European service centre. This growth is reflected in its annual output, with 95% of Wrightbus's buses being zero-emission vehicles.
Since being rescued from administration in 2019, Wrightbus has transformed into a beacon of innovation and industrial resurgence, employing over 2,300 people. The company's recent success is evident in its record-breaking 12 months, during which it launched a new electric midi-bus range, a next-generation hydrogen coach, a diesel coach, and a hydrogen-powered double-decker.
In the UK, a new fleet of zero-emission vehicles, manufactured by Wrightbus, has been launched in York. The York buses will be operated by First Bus and rolled out across the city in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the Kite Hydroliners will be deployed in the town of Geilenkirchen, Germany.
Wrightbus's StreetDeck Ultroliner buses will be married with the latest Voith DIWA.8 NXT 7-speed transmission, further enhancing their efficiency and performance. With its continued growth and innovation, Wrightbus is cementing its status as the world's fastest-growing zero-emission bus manufacturer, with the 6×2 StreetDeck bus receiving orders for the Far East and Europe.
